What is kokedama?
Kokedama is a Japanese art form as a literal translation, meaning moss (koke) and ball (dama). It evolved from bonsai traditions, a simple way for people to enjoy nature’s beauty and tranquility indoors. The roots and soil of each Simple Morea plant are wrapped in porous moss and natural twine, which helps retain moisture and airflow, minimizing root rot. Suitable for experienced gardeners, beginners, or those with a ‘brown thumb". Our founder Wei Li handcrafts each piece using natural materials and designs modern, stylish displays with 3D printing techniques. These spheres represent the grace and self-sufficiency of Mother Nature and reflect Simple Morea’s philosophy: Life is Simple; Simple is Art. Explore and purchase Li’s latest creations here: Artwork.
Want to make your own?
Simple Morea regularly hosts workshops across the midwestern United States. Each workshop is led by our creator, Wei Li, and is infused with his passion and knowledge. It is a mindful craft that involves careful attention to detail. Li is an enthusiastic, hands-on instructor and provides each student with firsthand expertise in plant care and management. Questions are always encouraged! We want our learners to not only walk away with an elegant statement piece, but also a sense of peace and joy from the simple acts of creation and learning! Students are provided with all the necessary materials and hands-on guidance for making their own piece of natural beauty to take home. Many of our students have returned to our classes time and time again, creating a comforting sense of community in each workshop. We’d love for you to join us: Workshop.
